Norton Engineering Consultants is looking for experienced Process Engineers to join our team.

About the Position
The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for providing process engineering solutions for our clients – including process evaluations, project scoping, process design, and troubleshooting/operational assistance. The Senior Process Engineer will generally work as part of a team on larger projects, but may work as an individual contributor for smaller projects. Depending on the type of work that is being performed, the Senior Process Engineer may interact with client representatives in collecting information and in discussing the finished work product.

Technical Knowledge

  • Develops information needs for process evaluations and project scoping, and works with client to collect required information and/or interview client representatives as needed.
  • Develops Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Develops material and energy balances
  • Sizing and specification of process equipment and instrumentation
  • Process development experience in new construction, capacity expansions, revamps, and debottlenecking projects
  • Process Hazard Analysis (HAZOP), Risk Assessment, and/or What-If experience is desired, with facilitation experience a plus
  • Performs process simulations, hydraulic calculations/pipe sizing, and develops engineering tools as needed.
  • Experience with process engineering software (i.e. Aspen Plus, HYSYS, PRO/II, UniSim, ProSim, proprietary programs etc.) to develop heat and material balances
  • Experience in medium to heavy industry including refinery/chemicals/renewable energy
  • An understanding of the gated project execution procedures such as Front-End Loading (FEL)
  • Engineering experience in two or more of the following areas is desired:
    • Combustion/Fired Heaters
    • Distillation/Fractionation
    • Heat Exchangers and Heat Exchanger Networks
    • Process Design
    • Liquid-Vapor Separation
    • Fluid Solid Systems
    • Environmental Control Technologies
    • Refining Process Technologies
    • Commodity or Specialty Chemical Process Technologies
    • Process Controls & Instrumentation

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree
  • Five (5) to fifteen (15) years of demonstrated Process Engineering experience in a multi-discipline environment in the energy, chemical and/or oil and gas industries
  • Demonstrated experience as a Process Engineer in Process Design, Unit Monitoring, and/or Troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with working multiple projects and priorities and managing workload.
  • Demonstrated work experience collaborating with multi-discipline teams

Non-Technical Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operating company personnel, including Process/Mechanical/Environmental Engineers, Managers, Mechanics/Technicians, and Unit Operators.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload to meet deadlines, and to alert supervision of schedule issues or need of assistance.
  • Ability to mentor younger Process Engineers

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 – $145,000.00 per year
